Applications are Open for the 2021 Woo Center Fellowship Program
We are excited to announce the launch of the 2021 Woo Center Fellowship Program at Duke University! This fellowship program aims to provide experience working on real problems in the health and healthcare domains at Duke while fostering an innovative and entrepreneurial spirit. By partnering with investigators and innovators at departments at Duke University Health System, Duke Institute for Health Innovation (DIHI), Duke University School of Nursing, and medical imaging industry partners such as Gradient Health supported by Google, fellows will become deeply immersed in the field of healthcare and solve complex problems. Potential solutions involve technical solutions, ranging from machine learning, computer vision, software engineering, digital pathology, and other technical domains. The program provides a unique opportunity to integrate these technical solutions with regard to research and operational questions. The Woo center will also provide stipends for the awarded fellows.
Several outstanding fellows will be selected for the 2021 Woo Center Fellowship Program. Selected finalists will be matched to project teams according to expertise and interest. Examples of prior projects have included large scale radiologic image captioning, open source contributions into TensorFlow, deep learning segmentation of microscopic structures on digital pathology images, real-time prediction of inpatient decompensation and others. During the internship period, the fellows will have the opportunity to: 1) analyze electronic health record, clinical imaging, and other data sources; 2) receive technical, clinical, and design mentorship from experts; 3) publish their work in peer-reviewed journals; 4) develop intellectual property; and 5) collaborate with the industry partners worldwide.
